I have the same issue Callum. 2014 110 USW coming up for renewal.
I am insured at present with A-Plan / Howdens Ipswich Office.

I have already had one worrying renewal for house insurance where they managed to reduce the price of the renewal from the previous Company (LV). When I asked if the renewal was for exactly the same policy, I was told it was for less cover! Good job I asked.

I went on one of the comparison websites and as has been said on here before, I ended up getting a quote for half the price they were offering. Oh, and it was with LV.

This disappoints me as up until ‘Howdens’ I had always had really good friendly service for the last eight years.

Ok. Home insurance is different to the issues with LR insurance at present but they have told me they will be uncompetitive.

I have always been dubious of unknown companies but in essence, A-Plan’s policies were often with companies I hadn’t heard of. My experience of insurance payouts are that none of these companies, no matter how well known they are, are good at paying out.

I would ask NFU mutual direct - there is a link to my experience is on the previous page. I hope that helps.

Thanks Rashers. Yes, sounds like you're in the same predicament as me. I had the same with LV house insurance too - had been a customer for years and then came up with a stupid premium last year - renewed with A-Plan of all people!

To Jerry's point, I am awaiting call backs from NFU and Lancaster but not holding out too much hope. NFU were always really expensive but here's hoping their premiums haven't increased by the same level which means they may now be "reasonable" compared to the quotes I've received thus far.

I'll let you know if I have any success......

Some people swear by NFU, some swear about them.

There have been probably just as many successes as there has been people who were refused cover or got an astronomically high price. last time I tried with them they were three times the price of A-Plan as they were. But that was a few years back and I will give them the benefit of the doubt and try them again. I guess it is just down to that Postcode Insurance Lottery.

But I found it quite ironic that the quitisential ‘farmers insurer’ refused cover Land Rover Defenders Rolling with laughter like they will start refusing to insure tractors Laughing

I mean, good God, it’s like Land Rover insurance not wanting to cover their own products Whistle

I have my current renewal from NFU, and it has gone up £6.00 over what I paid last year.

If anything my 2002 HT (with mods) has been consistent over the fourteen years I’ve had it.

My wife’s Velar jumped up in price last year and £200 this year, but each time a phone call saved some money.

Mark, it seems to be the late model 110 USW's that are getting the ridiculous increases. Hoping my 2007 90 Van will be exempt from those increases like your 2002!

NFU came through for me thankfully. Still a walloping increase on last year's £434 at £914 but better than Howden/A-Plan's £1100 and Flux's £1800.
